BIO

I am Ph.D. Candidate in the Department of Political Science at the University of Nevada, Reno. My research interests are terrorism, political violence, counterterrorism, geospatial intelligence applications, and GIS methods. My interdisciplinary research focuses on understanding the causes of terrorism using geospatial analysis and qualitative case studies. I am also interested in identifying ways to improve the quality and accuracy of terrorism datasets. For my dissertation, I have produced two new terrorism datasets for Northern Ireland and the Philippines that include point-specific georeferencing.

I am currently ABD and planning to defend my dissertation in the spring of 2025. In 2022 /2023, I was a Bilinski Fellow. In 2021, I received a Global Studies Graduate Student Research Grant from the Ozmen Institute for Global Studies, and I served as a Distinguished Teaching Assistant/instructor in Core Humanities for the 2021 - 2022 academic year. I am hoping to pursue positions that allow me to continue to expand my research and help educate students.

RESEARCH INTERESTS and METHODS

Terrorism and Counterterrorism

My research focuses on terrorism in Northern Ireland and the Philippines, and on identifying the implications of terrorism research on counterterrorism.

Data Improvement and Development

My research includes the development of new georeferenced terrorism datasets for Northern Ireland and the Philippines. I also assess existing terrorism datasets and identify ways to improve data.

Multi-Method Research

My research utilizes a multi-method approach to understanding the proximate causes of terrorism. I use geospatial analysis to identify clusters of terrorism and case studies to analyze those clusters.

Interdisciplinary

I use an interdisciplinary approach to understanding terrorism pulling methods and theories from the fields of political science and geography.

Methodology

I have extensive training in GIS and utilize multiple qualitative methods, including Comparative Historical Analysis and Process Tracing.
